Queen of Fattitude

Oy Vey!

Someone – I don’t remember who—has borrowed my precious copy of Camryn Manheim’s hilarious and inspiring memoir, Wake Up, I’m Fat!

I must purchase a new copy so that I can refer to it and quote from it and share with you, my Big Sisters, the wisdom of this talented and beautiful actress.

I suggest that you, too, purchase a copy. Read it. Learn it. Live it. It is the Fat Girl’s Bible.

And while you are waiting for your very own copy to arrive, you can admire this crochet tunic sweater and Irish Linen skirt, both available in Womens and Womens Petite sizes at Talbots.com at well over 50% off!

Happy shopping and happy reading!

xoxo, Francesca

  1. Ok … this is why I’ve been checking this site: shopping resources. I had no idea – NO IDEA – that Talbot’s had WP sizes. WHY did this never come to my attention!? Do they have WP in the stores too!? (be still my heart) I’ve never shopped there, but now I definitely want to check it out. The clothing looks work-friendly – just what I need.

Francesca and Plumcake – please point us in the direction of more stores that carry W and WP! ;-)

Indeed, Talbots has stores with generous departments for both Womens and Women Petite sizes. If you go to Talbots.com and click on their store locator, you can find these treasure troves!
Francesca’s MO is to go to Talbots’ WP section twice a year, during their semi-annual sale, and to take one of everything from the sales racks, try them on, and leave with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise.
Talbots is my dream store. Between Talbots and Igigi, I think I don’t ever have to shop anywhere else.

  3. Speaking of books that change your body image, my two cents is to recommend Eve Ensler’s The Good Body, which is not specifically for big girls but does a beautiful job of putting body insecurity and the market frenzy that feeds on it in perspective. At the end of a book that is alternately poignant, hilarious, and shocking, I found I was able to see myself in a much more appreciative light. I’ve shared it with most of the women in my life and now, I suppose, I am sharing it with you! It’s a quick, easy read that you will find hard not to pass around to women you love, no matter what their shape. And if you get the chance to go see her do the show live, GO! It’s an incredible experience.

  4. Talbots Woman is one of my core resources, particularly for wool crepe and linen items, simple things such as dresses. The only thing I wish is that TW had more dresses. There are three stores within reasonable distance of me — Pasadena, South Coast Plaza and University Towne Centre (all SoCal) that have the women’s sizes.

  5. I bought this sweater set in the coral-y orange color. LOVE IT! with brown. Talbots is the best but in my area the 22s and 24s sell out fast and the clothes I like don’t seem to make it to the sale!
