Plumcake and Francesca want to know:
What are you going to do to be fabulous this weekend?
Leave your answer in the comments or link to your blog. On Monday, we will select our favorite response and post it as the first blog ‘o the morning!
For a little inspiration, why not download Auntie Mame? Plumcake watched it just last night. It’s one of her favorite movies!
I’m going to ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge: 160 miles from Wellesley to Provincetown to raise money for cancer research. I’m the stoker and navigator on the tandem I ride with my husband. When I’m surrounded by thin cyclists it’s easy to compare myself unfavorably to them, but this year I’m going to be fabulous in my size XXL spandex and say, “I’m big and I’m proud, and I’m helping to beat cancer!”

I will sew me a new pair of trousers and some shirts that really fits me!

Well, perhaps this is not truly “fabulous,” but on Sunday the Annalucia and the Tedesco are hosting the potluck barbecue for some of the Tedesco’s friends, and the Annalucia is making two cheesecakes. One is honey-almond and one is saffron-ginger.
The Annalucia’s Great Challenge of Superfantasticness will occur on the 18th of August. On that day ishe is not only dancing at the Old Town School of Folk Music student performance (she is in the class of the belly dance) but later that afternoon she is off to Oak Park to meet some professional translators. The translation is the profession she is only just now adopting, and she confesses to some trepidation as she has been many years out of the work force and is meeting these people for the first time. The plan is to meet at the open-air art show and then to adjourn to a cafe for dinner, and the weather will probably be most brutally hot.
Have you ladies any suggestions for the middle aged size 16 lady in this situation? The Annalucia is considering the white cotton trousers, the white camisole, and the “aubergine” silk shirt over all. Perhaps she will wear her white sandals, or if this is too much white, she can wear her red ones.
(This of course is for Oak Park. For the belly dance she will wear the black unitard and the jingly coin belt.)

This many not qualify as “fabulous” but the Dr Nic is going to a Pan-Asian potluck dinner on Saturday night. Her husband will be making chicken biryani and she will be trying her hand at Kheer. Not a single person attending this party will be cooking or eating their native food. It is very brave of the Dr Nic to make food for friends that she loves, when she has not made it before. The perfectionist in her is very nervous.

Alas, I’m going on vacation for a week, so if I get up to some fabulousness, there won’t be a Monday post about it. :)
Enjoy your fabulous weekends!

The fabulousness is, in the opinion of the Jane, even better in the book of “Auntie Mame” than in the movie.
The Jane is going to put on something long, cool and black to go shopping in the woo-woo emporia of Salem, Mass. While there, she will visit a shop called Gourmet Fare, where a very nice man named Bert makes “Horrible Cookies” which have a chocolate truffle in the middle.

Actually, I’m going to practice wearing the extremely high heels a friend lent me, which she insists are perfect for my date next week, and I insist are perfect for making my date carry me around after my feet start hurting…

I will be buying white nail polish and trying to DIY the black and white French manicure in the new OPI ad. Since I am a klutz, it will probably not be super-fabulous, but it will still look good with my black and white flowered dress when I go to goth night at the gay bar.

I will be studying for finals (summer term) and readying my apartment for a rare visit from my fiancé who lives in another state. By Sunday night, I will have a brain full of knowledge and a clean house, and I think that’s pretty fabulous. But tonight the spotlight is on me, giving myself a relaxing mini-facial, deep-conditioning my hair, and painting my toenails; knowing I look good will give me confidence for my exams, and I’m sure my sweetheart will appreciate it, too!

Gauss will be hiking on the Appalachian Trail on Sunday, together with a husband, a dog and five friends! Even better, the trailhead is in a little town with a famous candy and peanut store.

The CanadianChick will be sewing outfits for a September wedding. She is the Matron of Honour, and is making a superfantastic blue rayon challis dress with surplice bodice and gored skirt for herself, and a white silk satin princess-seam dress for the bride.
The CanadianChick is also sewing a linen Jacobean shirt for the Scottish groom…
Everyone is plus sized, so the fabric store is enjoying their plus sized orders of fabric and fabric dye.
(sweet flying spaghetti monster, but I LOVE this blog!)

Perhaps it is TMI, but I will be super-fabulous in my black leather boots and corset at the local BDSM dungeon! I have a rendezvous with a foot-fetishist submissive at the dungeon planned, and will definitely be getting an amazing foot-massage and pedicure.

I will be installing a new ceiling fan, painting my bedroom and doing a bit of furniture assembly in the off time…. Because a woman who can wield a hammer without damaging her manicure is absolutely fabulous!

On Saturday the Gemdiva will be getting a superfantastic LCN manicure and then do some bargain hunting at TJ Maxx. On Sunday, the Gemdiva’s son and daughter-in-law are bringing her new baby DIT (Diva In Training) for a visit. I shall begin her education in Divadom early by cooing to her about all natural fabrics, fabulous shoes, and the 4Cs of diamonds.
Plumcake, Auntie Mame is one of my favorite movies as well. If you can find a copy you should read Rosalind Russell’s autobiography, “Life Is A Banquet”. She was quite a remarkable lady off screen as well as on.

Let’s see… dinner and nature walk with the lovely and talented Mr. Sniper, gardening, fully stocked wine cupboard and a bunch of Joan Crawford movies on Tivo. Faaaabulous.

I am having a creative weekend at home alone with Msr. Abraham Poodleman (who is a white standard poodle with a purple mohawk).
A series of self-portraits on the theme of other lives I might have had is being undertaken. The curvy, superfantastic rockstar one is mid-underpainting as I write. To better do the proportions of the big girls, I have been looking at pictures of beautiful, zaftig women. Thus, I am wandering around feeling sexy and beautiful and creative. Excellent indeed! I’m also making some screens for screenprinting a t-shirt for myself with bluebirds in the Sailor Jerry tattoo style.
Sunday, I am attending my first baseball game ever. I got it as a Father’s Day present for dad and I to attend together. I will be wearing a skirt and cute shoes. There’s no way I’m sitting outside in Texas in jeans.

Well, I already did the superfabulous yesterday. Mr. Darryl and I went to a vineyard in Ithaca, NY (where our eldest is going to have her wedding in October) to do a winetasting so that we can choose the “two reds and two whites” for the wedding. Should have eated a little, ahem, more protein and fat before we undertook going through every. single. wine. But, we did our duty and then went downtown to “The Commons” where I scouted out four yards of superfab orange/gold silk dupioni which I shall use to make into my “MOTB” dress. I will be wearing it with an already-existing superfabulous (and I do mean that – this is something I am extremely proud of having made and it looks great) swing jacket in orange/brown/black print on a beige background linen(which I quilted with the lowest value of high tech lining) and a hat(to be named later, but I think I’ll use some of the dress fabric to dress it with).
So, I got a lot of superfabulous value yesterday. I also squeezed in a phone call to our Congressman to ask him to vote “no” on the FISA legislation and an email to Speaker Nancy Pelosi in terms of rallying the Democratic troops to do the same. Felt superfab for getting on the phone and making the case to the Rep.’s office gremlins – at least his staff was working on a Saturday – did NOT feel so superfab when I saw the voting results this morning. Boo Hiss. But we take our superfabulousness where we can get it, eh?

Evey American should be taxed at the same rate. What’s not fair about that? Oh I know it’s not fair that some people work harder, sacrafice more for thier future, save more, spend less, studied in school and applied themselves and became self made in this wonderful country where you can strive to do better. To the communists that’s just not fair!!
