Strapless Bras for the Big Boobs

Filed under: Lingerie — Francesca @ 8:11 am

It has come up, here at Manolo for the Big Girl, when we recommend strapless, wide-neckline, or plunging-neckline dresses, that readers do not know where to find a bra to wear with such revealing clothes.

Whitney, who recommended HolyClothing to us, reminds us about Bravissimo, the British bra store which sells “lingerie for big-boobed women” (seriously, that is their tagline). Francesca was pleased to see that they sell strapless and plunging bras, starting at D-cups, all the way up to G-cup. (Elsewhere on the site, bras go up to size K, and there is a nursing bra in an L-cup.)

The bras are pricey (and outside Europe, one must add a $15 shipping fee – ha! revenge for all American sites which do not even ship abroad at all!), but this is not an area where one wishes to skimp.

So now there is no excuse not to look and feel sexy.

  1. I can also recommend the Bra6 from Lane Bryant.

  2. Does anyone remember the lady from the spring season of “American Inventor” who invented a bra for backless dresses that actually (gasp) had straps and was comfortable, even for the large-chested ladies she tested it on. She lost, so more importantly, does anyone know where I can get one???

  3. Thanks for recommending this site, I know a few people who use it. If anyone is visiting London, the ‘real life’ store is meant to be fabulous, very comfortable, and with knowledgeable staff. Although not so fabulous that you’d travel all that way just to buy underwear…

  4. Leah –

The site isn’t up and running yet, but it can be found at:

Hopefully she’ll have her product ready soon, it looks like it really works!

  5. Figleaves (http://www.figleaves.com) also carries a pretty good selection of larger bra sizes. They’re in the US and routinely run “free shipping” promotions.

  6. Another suggestion:
I have heard many, many good things about the Goddess Long Line Strapless Bra (up to cup size FF and band size 50), as shown here –on sale!– at Lady Grace (another good source in general for a variety of sizes of bras):

I tried it on myself and was very impressed with the support (I’m a G/H cup, so this is quite a challenge) but didn’t find where the bottom hit me comfortable, so I ended up not getting it. Someone with a different body shape could easily love this bra, and so I have heard from a bunch of people who have it. I do have many other Goddess bras, and have been very happy with them.

My co-worker just asked me why I winced out loud.

  8. I really like Lane Bryant for strapless bras and some bras in general. They carry both larger cup and band sizes. The bras aren’t the horrible frumpy over padded things I’ve found in department stores. The choice of nude colors is good. My current favorites though are from Wacoal. They make larger cup sizes not sure about band sizes over 40.

  9. They have a nice one at David’s Bridal but its about $80. But it fit my DD’s nicely.

  10. Bra 6 from LB will hold up anything, possibly including the Empire State Building. That being said, it is a commitment, and is um…challenging to get used to. (Not the comfiest thing around.) If you have a big night out where you must look superfantastic, it’s worth looking into.

I am currently wearing the Cacique strapless convertible bra from LB, and I love it. It does the job, and it is comfy enough to wear every day, with or without straps. usually, I am too lazy to put the flippin’ straps back on, and it works just fine.
