One thing I especially like about the bags you have shown here is - that I can actually imagine being able to put more than a credit card and a lipstick in them. Evening events require a few more things than that and even in these days of cell phones almost the size of credit cards, you need to take one of those (car-fare comes extra, of course). I tend to also like bags that have chains so that I can sling it over the back of the chair, since I have yet to attend an evening event where, when we sat down at the table, there was absolutely no room to put my bag ON the table at all and putting it under my chair seems to be an invitation to disaster.

The Gemdiva must confess to a frustrated desire to go to a state dinner at the Whitehouse in her best "I'd like to thank the academy" gown, carrying a Judith Leiber evening bag. You know, one of those miniature crystal-covered sculptures that are pure fantasy. But, to spend $5,000 on a bag that is of such limited utility would indeed be criminal, and so, I dream on.
