UG! No! Stay away from Woman Within/Layne Bryant! Their clothing is FUGLY! It's all very manly and made to make fat women look as terrible as possible! Oh how I miss Robinson's May. It had the best clothing for us short and fatties! No one else has their taste.

This is a great question - I wanted to buy my Ma some nice nighties for Xmas a few years back, and none of the big department stores here had anything but polyester floral muu-muu nightmares. (I eventually struck gold with a great store, but it's NZ only, I think - http://www.pyjamacompany.co.nz/)

I read an article, written by a carer working in a nursing home, which said how sad it was when elderly people are left with old & worn clothes to wear. The author was always touched by families who brought in good quality underwear & toiletries for the residents.

I've had some great luck buying nightgowns for my elderly 2X Mom at both Kohls and Target. For the past 3 years, Kohls has had a great selection of very pretty but demure flannel and cotton nightgowns in 1, 2, and 3X. My mom's about 5'4" and they fall just below her knee, so they should be fine for an even more petite woman.
