i had never been inside a talbot's in my life, because my mom always insisted that they were stuffy and boring. i needed to find a suit for medical school interviews that would be appropriately professional (since pretty much everything i own is pink and/or inappropriately cute for such things), and everything at macy's squashed my chest flat and bagged around my waist until i made a scene and insisted we were leaving and coming back on a day i hated myself less. we started to walk past talbot's, and i said "hey, mom, wait - manolo for the big girls says this place is awesome. can we try it?" lo and behold, the very first suit i tried on was incredibly comfortable, emphasized the fact that i have a sizable rack and a small waist, and was a suitably professional shade of gray. you guys are my heroes, and if this suit gets me into medical school, you will definitely hear about it!

Talbots head here. I saw a story on the WWD.com Web site that indicated some changes are coming -- particularly more merchandise delivery, stepped-up markdowns and more color.
For Talbots Woman, I want to see more dresses. That's my biggest complaint -- they have great wool crepe basic pieces, but not many dresses.

I find your lack of faith...disturbing. (Faith that anybody could name that quotation, of course!)

Talbots is only as stuffy as she who wears it. Translation: if you're stuffy and boring, so are your clothes, no matter where they came from. I think Talbots is superfantastic (if a bit pricey)! Let the haters hate. ;)

If you don't mind me asking, how do you deal with the elastic waists Talbots insists on putting on every pair of plus-sized pants it sells? I'm somewhat pear-shaped, and I have the hardest time with Talbots' pants. They come up over my belly button and the elastic gaps and bunches and looks silly in the back, while in front the material saran-wraps itself to my belly. I end up looking horrible and dowdy. Pants with normal waists never seem to give me that problem, but by the time you get to be my size (24), they can be very hard to find.

I have snagged the really cool, recently marked down, dressier denim blazer the nearest Women's department did not have in a 16W this past weekend. Thanks for the heads up.

DARNIT! Someone got the Star Wars reference before me. And I watched those movies with SF3 just a few weeks ago too.

As pretty as some of that stuff is, unfortunately, it's not really appropriate for winter in New York, sadly. :(
