Francesca just finished reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by the young and very talented Jonathan Safran Foer, whose previous famous novel is the equally surreal and thought-provoking Everything Is Illuminated. But Francesca likes Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close better. It is the story of a little boy who sets off, after his father is killed in the World Trade Center, to find the lock which goes with a key he has found among his father’s things. He meets so many interesting people along the way; Foer’s imagination is amazing. But it is the ending that made Francesca cry. This is not a Light Read, but it is a Good Read, a Cathartic Read. Francesca hopes you find it as moving as she did.

I loved loved loved this book. It’s hysterical at points but also very moving. While I agree that it is not a Light Read in that it skews toward literary rather than pulp, it is still a Fun Read.
