Before I commence to oohing and aahing over these scrummy yet work-appropriate heels, I would be remiss in my duties as The World’s Most Fashionable Anglican* if I failed to point out that –while inarguably fab– these “Advent” shoes from Jimmy Choo (currently 50% off!) are not the liturgically correct color (purple) for the season.
In light of this grave error, there are really only two possible solutions:
A) Jimmy Choo should, with great haste, send me a pair of these delicious creatures for free (and that includes tax and duty) in an effort to remove them from circulation.
OR
B) Convince myboyfriendTheArchbishopofCanterbury (sorry Style-Spy, I’m stealing that conceit) to force the entire Anglican Communion to eschew boring old purple for the weeks preceding Christmas and wear instead head-to-toe elaphe snake skin. Mmm, it’s serpently delicious!
*Results based on a small research study. Okay, really it was just me and some friends. And by friends I mean my dog. And some hand puppets. And an apple I’d bitten to make a smiley face. Don’t judge me.
Purple? Did we roll over into Advent when I wasn’t looking? I mean, I’ve been busy, but over here in Rome we’re still in green season, a.k.a. Ordinary Time, the long, peaceful parade of numbered Sundays.
Those are pretty good shoes for a summer Sunday, though.

Bridey, I believe she’s referring to the name of the shoe – “Advent”. Caused me a few seconds of “huh” at first too. But they are wonderful shoes…sigh. Cannot wear the tall shoes anymore.

Don’t you wish more designers would make their fabulous shoes in 2 heel heights? The 3 1/2 to 5 inch for the young and balanced and the 2 to 3 inch for the riper and less stable of us. Nine West does on their classic styles but I would love it if Manolo, Jimmy, Loubieloo would too! I think it would increase sales, don’t you?

I’d also love some designer shoes in heels that were modeled less after skyscrapers. It’s not that I can’t or won’t wear tall heels, it’s that with the individual shape of my legs, really tall heels usually look all wrong. (I have one pair of boots with 3″ heels that are happily the exception.) A lower heel gives me a much more graceful line, which looks much better when exiting the limousine (or getting out of the VW bug, but let’s dream about the former).

To the Jennie: YES, I do!! I cannot wear a heel over three inches, and sometimes, depending on the way the shoe is shaped, I can’t go over two. Sigh.

Le sigh here, as well. In point of fact, I love a Louis heel on a shoe; the graceful sweep in and out is both feminine and supportive, and one does not need a 3 to 5 inch heel for the shoe to look sexy; a curved heel as low as an inch, or an inch and a half, will do that, so the Louis heel works wonders for the up-to-three-inch-heel wearers, eliminating the possibility of look “matronly” or “sensible.”
And, as a matron, and someone who is at least occasionally sensible, why should those descriptors be so pejorative?

As gorgeous as these shoes are, I could never wear any Jimmy Choo item, after that horrible mysogonistic (sp?) ad campaign that showed a dead woman in the trunk of the car about to be dumped in the desert. Sorry to be such a Femi-Nazi downer but the older I get, the more I just can’t handle stuff like that.
Having said that, I would hate to be tested on my beliefs, like if someone were to offer me a free pair……
