Reader Katharine points us to this 50’s-era ad for Lane Bryant.
Francesca is glad that Lane Bryant no longer uses the word “chubby,” which Francesca does not like, though she cannot explain why it would be any worse than “fat” or even “big.”
But it is nice to see that Lane Bryant has been providing clothes for plus-size females for so many years. Kudos to them.
I have a Lany Bryant Catalogue from sometime pre-1945. I don’t think it used the word ‘chubby’ for the grown women.
I will have to get that out and scan it to post sometime soon.

I think “chubby” is for babies and puppies and cute things. That’s why it shouldn’t apply to grown humans. Incidentally, I’m not sure how it came about that someone finds someone else attractive, they call them, “cute.” It’s kind of odd, when you think about it.

I can remember having to wear “chubby”-labeled sizes when I was a kid in the 70s — not that long ago!

Look at those sizes. What would they think of today’s Real Women? I’m glad Lane Bryant has grown with the times.
