Blocked!

By Francesca

Francesca has blocks everywhere.

No, not writer’s block. Color blocks!

Igigi has been experimenting with the bold blocks or wavy lines of color, often in a “mod” style:

Taylor dress, available in Winterberry (above) or Charcoal.

Sophie dress, available in Charcoal (above) or Winterberry.

Mod dress available in black-grey-red (above) or shades of brown. Francesca especially likes this dress!

Now Avenue, too, is promoting this look:

Wavy Striped Ponte Dress. Shop click here and go to “apparel” and “dresses.”

Colorblock ponte dress. A little too lopsided, a little too 80’s for Francesca’s taste, but to each her own! You can find this dress by following the instructions for the one above.

Francesca hopes that these dresses are a signal that the overly-busy prints which have been in style the past two years will soon fade from fashion. She also notices that the ubiquitous empire waist is somewhat less ubiquitous this season, to which she says, as a large-bellied Apple, “thank God and none too soon.”

I think the Sophie dress from Igigi looks very Joan from Mad Men. WANT.

  2. Jassy Says:

Totes right about the Sophie. It didn’t occur to me!

These colour-blocked dresses are everywhere; even the windows at Bebe are full of them (albeit slutted up somewhat). But the fact that something is blocky and trendy cannot make up for colours that make you look six months dead: what’s up with all the grey and mustard, O Manufacturers?

  4. De Says:

Raincoaster, I happen to look quite fabulous in grey and mustard, and not so fabulous in the range of colors I keep finding. We should trade stores :D!

I’d wear the second one; I’m a little closer to that shape, but bigger. The others don’t do a thing for me, especially the two dresses with the color down the side. It looks like a painter was doing a wall, didn’t realize the models were standing against it, and got them by accident.
