It was about 0 degrees outside with high winds, but the fireplace, wonderful food, great conversation, wine, champagne and laughter chased away the chill. I always say that you should spend NYE in a way that reflects how you would like the new year to play out. If so, then my 2009 will be warm and wonderful. Happy New Year to all! Mr Carol and I went to church, then had two couples over for dinner - beef tenderloin and swordfish on the grill, yum! Toasted ourselves and each other at midnight and settled down for a two hour session of catch-phrase. Haven't laughed that hard in ages! NY's Day we spent mostly on the couch, though he had to make a run to Sears to pick up a new garage door opener. Why do they always break on a cold holiday??? I worked until 5pm. Placid as swans seem, there is no sound more blood-curdling than the throaty bleating released when two male swans crash into one another at full force and speed. It was freezing in DC, as it always is this time of year, and yesterday we had a particularly chilling wind blowing. So I dressed sensibly in nice jeans, a sparkly sweater, and flats that I can discretely wear socks with. Then I sat back and enjoyed watching all the ridiculous girls who thought it was a good idea to wear tiny little dresses with bear legs and no sweater. And I laughed at them in my head.
