Big Girls in Art: Patricia Traub

By Francesca

Patricia Traub creates dramatic, unsettling oil paintings. Some have Big Girls in them. For example:

The Conservator

The Journey

Francesca says: She must sit with these images for a while and muse over what she makes of them. She is not sure.

I think these paintings are beautiful!
It’s like the artist is trying to portray the power of woman as a Goddess who is the caretaker and mother of the world. She is the giver and the taker of life. Simply beautiful!

I did notice the woman standing on the disc/crescent, which is how the Virgin Mary has been portrayed in a lot of paintings.

I have to admit, though, it’s not my favorite. As with a lot of art, I can appreciate the great skill and talent it took to produce, but would I want it in my house? Not really. No insult to the artist, but tastes vary.
