The old school rule of thumb was ever 3 months or 10,000 miles….now they say go strictly on mileage…and even then, the old rule of thumb is probably too close together.
Just a tip I recently got from a good, reliable mechanic.

And, from someone who learned the hard way, it is a good idea to check your oil every time you get gas, because oil lights are not always functional, and new engines are expensive.
