Oh, how Francesca has been enjoying Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Nearly Everything!
It is entertaining and fascinating. Francesca is learning how scientists figured out the weight of the Earth, and how they figured out the age of the Earth, and that scientists are among the most eccentric and often irascible people on Earth.
This book is informative and hilarious. Francesca loves!
Oooh, I agree, that is a fabulous book. Infact if you want a laugh and some interesting facts, pick up ANY of Bill Bryson’s books. The one on Australia is particularly amusing (and mostly accurate).

One time I was listening to one of his books on CD on a long drive (the one where he travels across Europe, I can’t remember the name right now) and I was literally laughing so hard I had to pull over until I could get hold of myself. I’ve read most of his books and they are consistently laugh-until-you-cry funny.

A Walk in the Woods is also so funny you will cry, but also quite serious when he gets into environmental issues (which cannot be avoided when talking about Appalachia).
