A Walk in the Woods is also so funny you will cry, but also quite serious when he gets into environmental issues (which cannot be avoided when talking about Appalachia).

One time I was listening to one of his books on CD on a long drive (the one where he travels across Europe, I can’t remember the name right now) and I was literally laughing so hard I had to pull over until I could get hold of myself. I’ve read most of his books and they are consistently laugh-until-you-cry funny.

Oooh, I agree, that is a fabulous book. Infact if you want a laugh and some interesting facts, pick up ANY of Bill Bryson’s books. The one on Australia is particularly amusing (and mostly accurate).
