One of the ideas of fashionable dressing is that you never want all your clothes and accessories to have the same look. That’s the difference between clothes and costuming. Now granted all clothes are costuming, but when you see the girl in the rockabilly dress with the rockabilly shoes and the rockabilly hair and the rockabilly whatever…that’s not fashion, that’s costume.
Matchy, you’d do well to remember, is the same as tacky.
If you’ve got a red and white polka dot dress, you DON’T want to wear red or white or God forbid red AND white shoes, a red handbag and a white hairband; you’ll look like you’ve wandered off a summer stock production of The Music Man.
So what’s a girl who likes vintage and sweet but doesn’t want to look like a cliché do?
Have a few aggressively modern looking pieces to de-twee your look.
Available only in a size 41/11 and destined to sell out today, I am just crazy for these sapphire blue pointy pumps by Max Kibardin which JUST SO HAPPEN to be marked down to just a third of their original price.
Oh my… I need bigger feet.
