Hello and happy new week!

Junonia will automatically take 15% off any order, AND provide free shipping on orders of $90 or more, TODAY ONLY. Francesca’s pick for Sunday brunch with a friend.

Avenue will take 25% off your highest-priced item, through tomorrow, with code AV91099. Francesca’s pick (take off the flower when you get it).

Swimsuits for All will give you a free sarong, cover-up, or board shorts with any $50 purchase (excluding Clearance items) if you use code FREECOVER (Francesca does not know when this expires).  Or, use code BEST10 for 10% off any purchase (except Clearance). Click here to go to their website and shop for plus-size swimwear.

Bluefly is still having a big sale, good news to those of you who love designer handbags!

Igigi is having a sale. Francesca’s pick (pictured) is the Kylie Wrap Dress.

Just My Size, as you may recall, is offering $4.95 shipping on any order. That ends today. Francesca just yesterday ordered from them 2 slips, a pair of pettipantsicon (avoids thigh chub-rub), and a new swimsuiticon in Navy blue (pictured), which has princess seams. (It is also available in sizes 28-32 and in D-Cup and in a mastectomy version). Also in the past she has ordered this swimsuiticon from them.

Fashion Overdose will take 40% off your purchase (!) TODAY if you use code BIGSALE. Francesca appreciates their bold patterns and styles.

Always for Me is having a swimwear sale.

Jessica London will take an additional 20% off sale and clearance items TODAY if you use code JLE3625 at checkout.  click here and then click on “Extended Sizes” on the left.

Burlington Coat Factory sells plus-size coats, with a nice selection, did you know that? One can order online, but Francesca plans to go in person when she is next in New York.

Woman Within will give you a reversible jacket for $4.99 with any order TODAY with code WWDEAL. Francesca does not love the jacket — she guesses it’s alright — but she is thinking that EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT THIS JACKET, for $4.99 it is worth it to get a jacket that can be donated to one’s local church, boys/girls club, hospital or homeless shelter to be given to someone who needs it. And meanwhile, Woman Within is a good place to get basics like PJs or slips.

Alight will take $5 off any order of $15 or more today and tomorrow with code alight543. Five dollars is not much but it is something.

  1. Coats! I need a new winter coat. When is the best time to shop for coats at discount places like Burlington Coat Factory? I’m guessing off-season? I think I went there in the spring, and their selection of plus sized coats was abysmal.

    Anyone have advice for me?

  2. Regarding the pettipants as a defense against chub rub: I live in Louisiana, and we try not to layer during summer if we can avoid it. Heat and humidity make some outfits plain miserable. That said, I love to wear skirts but my thighs have been raw or healing up since an unfortunate rainy-while-denim-clad Disney trip in 2002. I saw a product called Body Glide mentioned at The Rotund earlier this year and at another blog I can’t seem to find.
The stick cost approximately $7 at a local sports store. (I heard Amazon.com has them for $15.) My thighs have not felt better in more than 5 years, and I can happily wear my skirts. The product is not greasy and has not damaged any of my clothes after using it for a month.
Now, I keep it in my bathroom and make it part of the daily routine on skirt days.
I have nothing to do with the company but cannot recommend this product enough.

  3. And just to make an interesting collision between the two comments above, I’m in south Texas and I just bought 7 pairs of laughably lightweight shapers from Burlington Coat Factory for $28 plus tax. I gave them a test run during a 100 degree day, and I felt like I didn’t have anything on.

  4. Bodyglide is excellent stuff. I used to use it when I was a Marathoner and now that I’m not, well it still comes in handy.

That’s not as dirty as it sounds, really.

But I like leggings under a skirt. I can’t help it, I’m an 80’s gal.

  5. Francesca, I work near this big Burlington Coat Factory on Sixth here in NYC and unfortunately, no, do not shop, srsly, it’s one of the most depressing stores I’ve ever walked into in my life. I gather there are decent BCFs elsewhere so I’m not knocking it all out but please, for pete’s sake please, don’t put a visit to it on your NYC agenda.

As far as the thigh situation, I’m a fan of simple cotton-spandex bike shorts, better than nylon. Or, yes, leggings. Leggings, especially the capri-ish length, are really good under a short or just-above-the-knee skirt right now and any length legging will do fine if you’re a long skirt person. Nothing wrong with them as long as there’s something else over your butt (i.e. do not pretend they are trousers like we did in the 80s).
