Five Great Shoes Under $50: The Hi-Top

Filed under: Five Great...,Flats,Inspiration/Realization,Movies,Shoes — Miss Plumcake @ 8:00 am

Today is Brother Plumcake’s birthday.

Brother Plumcake is my favorite living person, despite his stupid goatee, but we do not share a common sartorial view. For example, at the anniversary gala of our beloved grandparents –where I wore a custom designed dress and Michael Kors heels made out of unglazed python with gold leaf on the soles– my brother wore what could only be described as a gangster pinstriped suit complete with VINYL FAUX-SPATS and a bifurcated goatee.  In the parlance of my people “I liketa died”.

Today’s GSU50 is an homage to my brother, who would probably wear these.

Graffiti-print hi-tops from Cheap Monday on sale for $29. Heck, I’d probably wear them too. In fact, I’m going to order a pair right now. Wear these with jeans and a chunky cashmere pullover and you’ve got a whole Jules et Jim 2.0 thing going on.

  1. I went to my graduation ball wearing a black gown and sneakers. Teehee. I love sneakers so much. Especially the high tops. Even though my feet get hot in our weather.

  2. I’m loving that updated Jules & Jim look: where do you find your chunky cashmere sweaters in plus-sizes Plumcake? Short of custom designing same or buying a menswear version which always has a different fit. So annoyed – went into Brunello Cucinelli looking for a size 12-14 sweater (smaller than my size for sure and definitely not plus-size in my opinion) and the saleswoman acted like she smelled something bad: muttered something about not having “fat” sizes and when I oh-so-pleasantly said “Excuse me? WHAT did you say?” she whimpered that they didn’t carry larger sizes, to which I responded, “Oh, only East Hampton skinny women can shop here?” while meaningfully looking at all the unsold merch, sales priced and all. But I digress. I find that even Saks brand or Marina Rinaldo don’t sell thick cashmere – only thin. Ideas?
