Lazy Poll: Sadly Sans Hotness Edition

Happy Monday my little lamb shanks, how’s every little thing?

No Monday hotness this week I’m afraid.  I think we’re all still twitterpated from the All Blacks last week.

My big news is my precious beyond words brother survived yet another ghastly surgery to remove things in his body that really shouldn’t be there and I’ve spent the weekend researching teratomae –which can have EYES and TEETH and HAIR– to find out how I might appropriately and most effectively torment him about it when he’s all healed, because that’s what big sisters are for.

In other news, I joined a fly fishing club.

“But Plumcake” you say “you don’t know how to fish for flies!”

I know! But it sounds fun! I like water, and trout, and doing fiddly things that are also kind of stabby, and I might be good at it so who knows.  Plus I finally need an excuse to weave a fishing creel AND buy those Prada hip waders I’ve been loving since 2009.

Prada Fall 2009 RTW

(just kidding, although I did love that collection, Prada can still suck it, and those waders wouldn’t fit past my ankles)

So what about you? Anything exciting going on this week?

  1. Can’t the All Blacks change their name to be more inclusive? I feel left out as a Caucasian person.

  2. My husband has been working/living 300 miles away for the past 10 months and I finally get him back this weekend!!

  3. Those are rather fab, though limited in usefulness.

Best to your brother. Having been through my husband’s cancer last year, my opinion is that Someone You Love Having Cancer is pretty darn awful and not particularly uplifting. Have fun on the torment.

  4. Joining those offering the best to your brother; like Abby, been there, and it sucks no matter what.

I’m mostly bumming because an interview (reporter-type, not job-type) I was counting on didn’t come through — after teasing me for two weeks, the person I was pursuing decided he is just too burned out to do a 15-minute Q&A right now, poor baby. So I have to chase someone else, far too close to deadline. Grr.

  5. My thoughts are with you. I’m with Abby. I had two two people I love cope with cancer last/this year: Husband (overly stoic, but great result, little side effects, we hope it stays that way) & Father (Recovery very slow. Thank God his second wife is a doctor).

Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the Impressionists exihibt at the deYoung museum in San Fransico and even more enjoyed buying two fabulous leather jackets. (black and cream). Oh, and now I can eat dessert all I want because life’s too short.

  6. @Debs, Oh a cream leather jacket. I had my father’s child bride buy this incredible Dior jacket in the softest cream kidskin, it was a jacket for the ages. Apparently she got ball point pen on it and instead of taking it to a couture-level cleaner, she just balled it up and hid it. What a waste.

@Mifty, thanks. I’m sorry your interview didn’t come through! Maybe your person is just wary of interviews? I got burned pretty badly on one once and now I am extremely hesitant to give spoken interviews.

@LL welcome back Mister LL! If I see you posting one single LETTER on this blog this weekend –thereby wasting precious husband bonking time– I will hunt you down and smack you senseless.

  7. @Harri: HA!

  8. Yes, the waders are beyond silly and yes, Prada can still suck it, and I know that photo is all doctored up, but I gotta say I love the color scheme effect.

    Comment by BSAG — June 14, 2010 @ 5:09 pm

  9. Not on board with the waders, although that color leather is unbelievably pretty. I hope you have a lovely time fishing. The outdoors and I do not really get along in the whole it’s-not-air-conditioned and there-are-too-many bugs kind of way, but I hope you have fun.

I spent the day proofing a book for a colleague of mine, and I found some interesting avocado glass cups on Esty that I am deliberating. Portero seems to having a sale on scarves. Over the weekend, I concluded the “finishing powder” experiments of 2010 and have decided that Dior loses out to both the Chanel and the Illamasqua. The rest of the week is mostly just racing to a deadline.

  10. Harri, Thank you.

  11. I think Lady Gaga can incorporate those waders into an outfit somehow.

Nothing exciting happening to me, but my mom got a puppy yesterday, which was a total surprise. She had to put her other dog down several years back due to old age. He was a Golden Retriever/Border Collie Mix, the new puppy is a female Shih Tzu she’s christened Bella (but NOT after Twilight). She’s only 10 weeks old and tiny. I hope to see her for the first time tomorrow. Her SIL has two of them and they have an unseen competition about stuff. SIL got a new fridge, Mom had to get one too. SIL got a black car, Mom did too. They even have the same style and wear each others’ clothes.

  12. I stopped at CVS tonight and bought two things: condoms and Cheetos. If a bag of pot had been on that receipt, The People who track purchases would have been assured I was a 17-year-old boy. They would have then given me coupons for Axe Body Spray and Doritos. That is all.

  13. Glad to hear your brother got through his surgery.
May I suggest an upcoming World Cup hotness?

    Comment by klee — June 15, 2010 @ 8:23 am

  14. Hey, Plumcake! Glad your brother got through his surgery. I know it’s hard-i have a few cancer survivors in my family.

I agree with klee regarding World Cup hotness.

    @jen209–LOL!

As for me, it was a crazy week. I had to buy a new laptop last Saturday because the internal internet card gave out on my old one. I now own a 13″ Mac Book Pro. I should never have returned to Best Buy. While looking for a gift, I ended up with a digital video camera in my basket. I can now make videos of my border collie.

I also won Laudi Vidni’s “Be Your Own Diva” contest. I won the bag I designed on their site. The pic of my bag may still be on their Facebook page.

    Wow, what a week.

  15. Yes, ma’am.

  16. I grew up in Colorado. When I lived in Austin we went “camping” but to my mind, lying out sweltering in a 70 degree night in no way deserves the name. I suspect I’d have a similar snobbish reaction to fly fishing in Texas. That’s why God invented bass fishing, so you folks down south would have something to do.

  17. Would you kindly tell your most precious and darling brother to pretty please knock it off? Worry lines do nothing for the sparkle in my eyes.

I have been looking up fly fishing clubs in Connecticut and found a couple I want to check out. You have to let me know how it goes, because if it sucks for you it will suck for me.

Saturday I spent hours stuck on a plane with this most boring Yalie on the planet. Thinking you are brilliant and actually BEING brilliant are not. the. same. thing. However, it was a small price to pay to get to spend the week in my beloved home state of Texas. I have officially defrosted from the frozen North and am now consuming copius quantities of bar-b-que and Mexican food. (FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE WOULD SOMEONE OPEN A DECENT MEXICAN FOOD RESTAURANT IN CONNECT-I-FU*&%^%$-CUT????)

  18. Um, is that a sweater romper she’s wearing under those wool hot pants?

    Hooray for your brother!

I’m cruising on my sewing projects, what with being temporarily unemployed. Unfortunately, I messed up the orientation of my pillowcases, so the pattern is sideways. Still looks cute, but it vexes me. Ah, well, I used less fabric this way!

    Comment by zuzu — June 15, 2010 @ 11:24 am

  19. @Zuzu: Oh what, you DON’T wear a sweater romper over YOUR boiled wool hot pants? Freak!

@Melissa: I will indeed tell him to knock it off and appreciate your concern. I cannot begin to sympathize enough re: the tedious Yalie, but I suspect you are far nicer than I would’ve been. I have a feeling that “Well, not everybody can get into Vanderbilt” would’ve made its appearance somewhere early in the conversation.

@Astra: I grew up in Virginia so I am totally with you on the Not Real Fly Fishing, but it’s where I live so it’s where I’m going to learn.
