What Miss Plumcake is…

Filed under: Accessories,Books,Fashion,Jewelry,Movies,Music,Perfume,Plumcake's Closet — Miss Plumcake @ 1:00 pm

Hello my little buttermilk biscuits, how’s every little thing? Me? I’m fab.

My shipment of strepsils, QI DVDs and Marks and Spencer English breakfast tea is well on its way from London via Edinburgh and Montreal (thanks Michael! You’re a pal) and I’m getting all breathless at the idea of an entire weekend alone with my tea, my imported medicated lozenges and Stephen Fry all to myself. That’s right, it’s all about the glamor here at Chateau Gateau.

However it’s still Tuesday which means my mentholated marathon is several days away, so let’s find out what Miss Plumcake is…

Reading: Born Round:A Story of Food, Family and a Ferocious Appetite by Frank Bruni
Watching: Les Biches
Hearing: The Lady Killer by CeeLo Green. I can’t help it. It’s a shockingly great Motown album from beginning to end.
Smelling: Attrape-Coeur by Guerlain
Loving: Rachel Leigh Peridot Drop Earrings
Hating: The Knock-Kneed Naif Look. Listen, you’re not Lolita or an extra in a Bob Fosse number. You’re a grown-ass woman so stand up straight.
Wanting: Michael Kors Asymmetrical Zipper Dress (on BIG sale)
Buying: Saks V Neck Cashmere Sweaters. You can NEVER have too many cashmere sweaters, especially on sale!

So what about you? What’s rocking your casbah this last day of November?

Thinking About Thanksgiving #4

Filed under: Be Super Fantastic,Holidays — Twistie @ 11:30 pm

At last, the big day is over. It could have gone like this:

Or it may have gone like this:

I’m hoping you all had a day more like illustration #1. I know I did. In fact, I’m still having it in an undisclosed location filled with leftover turkey and the last two crumbs of pumpkin pie. Also? We are watching the Thanksgiving episode of WKRP In Cincinnati. Good times, good times.

If your day looked too much like illustration #2, my advice is that you bookmark the articles in this series and pull them  out about next August. Read them, consider them, and then don’t hesitate to make different arrangements for November.

Remember, just because it’s Thanksgiving that doesn’t mean you have to wind up feeling like a turkey.

‘Tis the Season

I’m excited. Are you excited? Because I’m excited.

A few weeks ago I had an idea that instead of doing a one-size-fits-all holiday shopping list, I’d take every weekday from now until Christmas to do a gift profile on a particular “type” of person, with gift prices varying from the most expensive item –later today we’ll profile The Classicist along with an Hermès Kelly Bag– to extremely inexpensive, e.g., a tortoiseshell natural bristle “spare” toothbrush for The Ladies’ Man later next month.

Each profile will have four carefully-selected gift suggestions –I consulted a sex therapist for the Sex Kitten post, a known Don Juan for the Ladies Man, and plus-size runners for the Athena Athlete post– and each item is available for purchase online.

Here’s a preview list: I’ll be adding live links as they go up (one a day) so click back here often!

The Classicist
The Preppy Girl
The Glamazon
The Misunderstood Genius
The Anglomaniac
The Athena Athlete
The Ladies’ Man
The Lovable Geek
The French Foodie
The Jackie O Wannabe
The Punk Rawk Girl

The Sex Kitten
The Cool Kid
The Southern Belle
The Professional Dipsomaniac
The Pin Up Queen
The Fashion Maven
The Ecochic Chick
The Bollywood Hopeful
The Animal Lover
