Sales: BUT I’M NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT

Filed under: Uncategorized — Miss Plumcake @ 11:11 am

FINE. Are you happy now? I give and I give to you people, and all I ask in return is a whole heap of cash, free swag and endless praise. Is that so much to ask? I THINK NOT.

It’s the bi-annual sale at Nordstrom and I feel like I need to give it up to them, because they actually use plus size models and then I have to take it back because their plus-size selection is called Encore. Really? Are we still doing cutesy names?

Anyhoodle. Metallics are taking an interesting twist and going into florals and jacquard for this season. Although I don’t tend to wear much in the way of florals myself, they can be a good choice for a big girl provided they aren’t too tiny or too twee.

A good multiseasonal floral that hits the right notes right now is this shantung number from Adrianna Papell.

Yeah, ideally this would be silk but alas, we live in a broken and sinful world so polyester it is. However, I’m pleasantly surprised to see the level of detail on the bodice, the rosettes at the neckline are actually brought up from the waistline in a rather lovely fold and tuck treatment that punches above its priceline.

I also like this raincoat, because it’s hard to find a decent long raincoat that’s cut for a woman with hips.

Saks has taken 30%-40% off many new items including their excellent Salon Z collection, but hurry up. Some prices go back up at midnight!

I’m going to do an investment dressing post next week featuring several pieces so I won’t spoil the surprise, but look what Tadashi Shoji has brought back:Mo’Nique’s Oscar Gown.

Okay, and now for the real shocker:

I kind of love a Monif C dress. I mean of course it would all depend on the quality of the leather, but this is very Nicolas Ghesquiere-at-Balenciaga and I would devastate in it.

A word to the wise: to carry off a trashy dress as Capital F Fashion, you have to be extremely elegant of bearing. Otherwise you look like a tramp (like dear Fluvia Lacerda, the model with the bad wig). And hey, if you want to look like a tramp that’s A-OK by me, provided I don’t have to see you, but you know…keep it in mind. Also, you’d want to do something either very avant garde with the shoes or go ultraclassic, we’re talking Balenciaga or archival Valentino.

Finally, I can’t leave you without a few shoes. 6pm is having an excellent sale on Charles David. My pick? These tumbled leather sandals in wine. An excellent date shoe, these darlings are 72% off!

  1. Pretty shoes.

You know, I agree about the whole ‘Encore’ thing, but to be fair, all the departments have cuetsy names. Maybe not on the website but in the store you can’t find anything because nothing is called what it actually is. Except Shoes and Lingere. So they’re equal opportunity rediculous.

  2. *sigh* this makes me remember my Nordstrom-related regret. I tried on a fabulous poka-dot dress there (black and white with a wide yellow belt). The waist hit me just in the right spot, and it looked awesome on me. But it wasn’t what I went there to buy that day, and it was a little pricey for an impulse buy, so I didn’t get it. Now I can’t find it anywhere and I wish I had just bought it.

I’ve learned my lesson now – buy now, and return later if necessary.

  3. Jen, is there any regret stronger than the regret of clothes not bought?

  4. oooohh, serious love for that Monif C dress. I’ve passed my peak ‘rock-a-leather-dress’ phase, but you would dazzle in it.

Altogether now: “thank you, Miss Plumcake”

  7. Plumcake, thanks for reinforcing my pick. When I was looking at the new Monif C collection, about a week ago, that dress jumped out at me. I even loved the back.
Not that I have call for a leather dress in my wardrobe, but if I wanted one I feel reaffirmed in this pick.

Oh, and the Charles David sale, I spotted these babies http://www.6pm.com/charles-david-koi-green-croco only to find my size sold out. Terrible tease.
