Dear Santa….

Filed under: Uncategorized — Twistie @ 8:30 am

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and I’m still floating on pumpkin pie dreams.

The rest of the world, however, has moved on to Black Friday, and all the holiday bargains therein. Me? I intend to stay in, watch a lot of Criminal Minds, and maybe do some shopping online. You know, just the stuff I’m worried you won’t think of. In fact, here are a few of the goodies that look good to me:

Who couldn’t use a Le Creuset 3.5qt Dutch Oven? Okay, there might be someone who couldn’t, but I certainly could. What’s more, I’m betting I’m not the only one here who would be delighted to have this baby in the kitchen! On top of all that, it’s a great deal at Cooking.com. See, the list price is $200.00, but right now it’s on sale at Cooking.com for just 129.99! Mmmm… great cookware that leaves a few bucks in the bank to buy food with? Delicious!

Of course, woman does not live superfantastically by great cookware alone.

One needs great tableware, too!

I’m loving this gorgeous oval platter in the Ricamo pattern by Fitz and Floyd. Full, it’s a great background for your food. Empty, it’s elegant enough to display prominently in your home. So… serving piece and decorative piece all for just $75.00? I’m sold!

Of course, once one has a fabulous piece of cookware and a beautiful serving piece… one had better come up with some recipes. Who better to turn to than the legendary Jacques Pepin? Essential Pepin is his magnum opus, the distillation of his more than six decades as a chef, restauranteur, teacher, television presenter, and cookbook author. With over seven hundred recipes, there’s something to please every palate and match every level of skill. Plus there’s an instructional DVD included, since photos of techniques for that many recipes would have made the book into the actual coffee table, rather than just one nice enough to put on one.

Oh, and if you get it at Amazon, you’ll save big, too! The list price is $40.00, but they’ve got it for just $26.40.

From the sublime, we head straight for the ridiculous. After all, what’s life without a good laugh or three?

Cake Wrecks is one of my favorite places to go for a good chuckle. Now editor Jen Yates has written a second book based on the hapless cake decorating efforts profiled on the site, this one devoted to holiday wrecks. The list price is $14.99, but you can add it to your Amazon cart for just $8.98. At that price, it might be the perfect answer to your office Secret Santa exchange!

So… let’s see… cookware, serveware, fabulous recipes, hilarity to choke on… what’s left?

I don’t know about you, but a little cult entertainment of the surreal kind always makes me happy. I think about ten people were ardent fans of Pushing Daisies, and I was at least three of them. Still, this is a series I adore and would love to be able to watch again… and again… and again. The complete series is available from Amazon in both DVD and Blu-Ray versions. Both are heavily discounted from the original price. Mr. Twistie? If you’re reading: THIS IS A HINT.

And of course, my world would never be complete without a hat.

The Betmar Patrice Roller Hat in plum is just the sort of chapeaux I love. It’s simple, but has style, and has a lovely brim for framing a face. The Village Hat Shop has it for just $44.00, which is a price most Santas can reasonably afford.

Whatever your personal style, here’s hoping Santa gets it right for you!

  1. And I’m the other 3 people that loved Pushing Daisies. I was so disappointed when they cancelled it.
And Le Creuset can do no wrong in my culinary universe.

  2. I was the other 4- I only caught a few episodes on TV, but knew right away it was the TV show of my dreams. I bought both seasons on Play.com, watched them both, and then started right up again. It’s just so whimsical and colorful, and the crazy names and superfluous details- awesome.
